Ruvo del Monte Il centro, situato al confine con la Campania, ha origini antiche. Probabilmente l'abitato fu fondato dai Sanniti col nome di RUFRAE, mentre il primo documento, che cita il paese col nome di RUVO, risale al 1045. fu una potente roccaforte longobarda della contea di Conza, e dopo la dominazione Sveva appartenne alla famiglia Armaterra. Il centro fu distrutto durante la repressione ghibellina del 1268 e ricostruito nel XIV sec. dalla famiglia De Balzo Successivamente si susseguirono nel dominio del feudo i Pignatelli, i Caracciolo di Torella ed infine i Mazzucca che la governarono fino all'eversione della feudalità. Di grande interesse architettonico è il Castello, risalente al XVI sec.; l'edificio è affiancato da una torre di epoca angioina che conserva ancora le originali merlature. Presso il Castello è situata la "Fontana Vecchia" la più antica del paese con due abbeveratoi. Interessante è la chiesa Maggiore che conserva una pittura su tela detta del "Purgatorio" del XVII sec.. in contrada Cerrutolo si possono ammirare i ruderi della Badia benedettina di San Tommaso costruita tra il XIII e il XIV sec; mentre in contrada Sant'Antonio vi sono i resti di una antica necropoli. Nel territorio sono molto diffuse le aziende zootecniche e le coltivazioni agricole.

It is situated at the bordering line with Campania. It is of very ancient origins; in fact, it was probably founded by the Samnites who called it RUFRAE and was definitely named RUVO in a document dating from 1045. this village was a powerful Longobard stronghold belonging to the County of Conza and was ruled by the Armaterra family after the Swebian domination. It was destroyed during the Ghibelline repression in 1268 and was rebuilt by the De Balzo family in the 14th century. Afterwards, it was ruled by the Pignatellis, the Caracciolos from Torella and by the Mazzuccas who governed it until the subversion of feudality. Of great architectonic interest is the Castle, dating from the 16th century, with the annexed tower dating from the Angevin period which still preserves the former crenellations. Near the "Castello" (Castle) there is the "Fontana Vecchia" the most ancient fountain in the village having two drinking throughs. Noteworthy is the "Chiesa Maggiore" (Mother Church) housing a 17th-century canvas called the "Purgatorio" (translator's note: Purgatory). In an area called Cerrutolo it is possible to admire the ruins of the "Badia Benedettina di San Tommaso"(Benedectine Abbey of St.Thomas) built between the 13th and the 14th centuries while in an area called Sant'Antonio there are the remains of an ancient necropolis. Agriculture as well as animal breeding farms are widespread throughout the territory.
